Since 2010, it is accessible as a walking and biking trail, following the original coach route for most of the way. In between, you are closer to the &quot;old&quot; train route (before upgrading the railway line in the 1980s) with its impressive viaducts.<\/p>\n<p>The trip itself is pleasant enough&nbsp;&#8211; even for someone without any real experience in mountain biking like myself. Especially helpful was the good-quality mountain bike I rented&nbsp;&#8211; quite a contrast to some other rental bikes, like in <a href=\"https:\/\/bernies-journeys.at\/en\/2012\/06\/19\/the-aukstaitija-bicycle-chain-massacre\/\">Lithuania<\/a>.<\/p>\n  <div class=\"breit_li wp-caption alignleft single-image\">\n  <p class=\"image\">\n   <a href=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/regions\/nz\/north\/index_62.htm\" class=\"lightbox-link\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img288x192\" src=\"..\/..\/..\/..\/regions\/nz\/north\/thumb\/62.jpg\" width=\"288\" height=\"192\" alt=\"[Picture]\" title=\"Old Coach Road\" \/><\/a>\n  <\/p>\n  <p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\n   <span xml:lang=\"en\" lang=\"en\">Old Coach Road<\/span>\n  <\/p>\n  <\/div>\n\n<p>With a total length of about 18&nbsp;kilometers (including the ride back into town along the <span xml:lang=\"mi\" lang=\"mi\">Mangawhero<\/span> River), it is easily doable in half a day.
