Every now and then, you are even lucky enough to come across a restaurant that seems to be familiar with the concept of a vegetarian, and which therefore offers many dishes without meat. In such a case, all sorts of stir-fried vegetables, curries, etc. are waiting to be tasted.

 2) People

The mentality of Southeast Asians makes travelling quite pleasant: They are not pushy, but very friendly. This means that you (usually) will not be harassed by touts, e.g. when strolling through some markets or reading studying a restaurant menu. On the other hand, if you do need some help, the locals are there with a smile and will help wherever they can.

 3) Prices

For a European like me, prices are really quite low in most countries in Southeast Asia (with Singapore being the only exception). Even on a longer trip, you can definitely afford a single room and eating out in a restaurant every day without breaking the bank. Excursions and tours are usually quite inexpensive as well.

 4) Tourist attractions

The tourist attractions in Southeast Asia are very diverse: Yes, there are many temples, but that is not all there is. You can also explore the nature (for example in Northern Laos or Northern Thailand), see some (domesticated) wildlife, or simply relax on the beach.

 5) Weather

Even though it might take a few days to get used to it at first, the warm, tropical weather definitely beats the wet, cold winter weather at home (at least in my opinion). If the heat becomes too much, you can escape into an air-conditioned room for an hour or so. By the sea, the heat is usually also quite bearable – at least in the shade.

[14

post-6504","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-trip-review
["GET
