The first week of my stay, however, I took a Vagabond tour of Western Ireland.

On our way to the West, we visited some old castles, for example the Rock of Cashel ...

June 18 – 21, 2007 – Kerry

We spent a large part of our time in Count Kerry. There, we visited the three peninsulas Beara, Iveragh, and Dingle.

... to Galway, the capital of the County Galway, ...

... to the isolated region of Connemara.

We concluded our day with a little barbeque on a beach in County Mayo.

June 23, 2007 – Croagh Patrick

On our way back to Dublin, we finally passed Croagh Patrick (still in County Mayo).

June 26, 2007 – Monasterboice & Mellifont Abbey

I dedicated a short excursion to Louth to the Irish monasteries. By bike, I visited two old ruins (Monasterboice and Mellifont Abbey).

June 27, 2007 – Wicklow Mountains

Also the Wicklow Mountains south of Dublin were the destination of (worthwhile) day trip.

While being there, we also visited the remains of the monastery in Glendalough.

June 28, 2007 – Brú na Bóinne

Finally, I came in touch with the earliest parts of Irish-celtic history while visiting the burial mound of Newgrange in the Boyne Valley.

Moreover, we stopped at the Hill of Tara, the old residence of the Irish kings.
