We started our trip along the coast of Queensland with a trip from Brisbane to Hervey Bay. On the way, we made a stopp-over in Noosa.

July 2, 2004 – Fraser Island

Taking a guided day-tour of Fraser Island, we explored this largest sand island of the world.

July 3, 2004 – Rockhampton

We spent the third day of our tour mainly in our rental car, going north along the coast.

July 4, 2004 – Conway National Park

After a five-hour drive from Rockhampton to Airlie Beach we relaxed a bit during a hike in Conway National Park.

July 5, 2004 – Whitsunday Islands
-
A boat trip in the Whitsundays brought us to Bali Hai, where we explored the Inner Reef of the Great Barrier Reef snorkeling and aboard a semi-submersible.

After that, we were swimming at Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island itself.

July 6, 2004 – reefHQ

In Townsville, we visited the reefHQ, a museum about the Great Barrier Reef.

July 7, 2004 – Atherton Tableland

The Atherton Tableland is the most scenic region we visited so far on our vacation in Australia.

July 8, 2004 – Great Barrier Reef

The highlight of our stay on the coast, and a real must for every visitor to Tropical North Queensland: scuba diving amidst the corals of the Great Barrier Reef!

July 9, 2004 – Daintree National Park

After the reef, it was time for the rainforest of the Daintree National Park – the second important ecosystem of Tropical North Queensland.

July 10, 2004 – Kuranda

We started our last day at the coast with a train trip through the rainforest from Cairns to Kuranda.
-
At noon, we took a gondola above the canopy of the rainforest.
-
In the afternoon, we finally got to learn Aboriginal art and culture.
