Today's excursion to the Curonia Spit was a very memorable one: The mixture of more sand dunes, which are over 50 meters high, and dense forest makes this area rather unique (at least in my experience).
After starting my trip by bus (in order to avoid another 100 km+ bike trip), I rented a bike in Juodkrantė, and went all the way down to Nida (the southernmost, and largest, village on the Lithuanian side of the Curonian Spit).
The absolute highlight for me was the dune walk on the Nigliai Dune, which was named after the village that it swallowed not only once, but four (!) times. After the fourth (and last) time, the villagers gave up and moved to another place.
The Parnidžio Dune just South of Nida is also worth a visit: With over 50 meters height, it is among the highest dunes on the Curonian Spit.
Have to admit, so far this is the first place on your trip where I can say that without a doubt, I would like to go there sometime as well. Looks great and seems like it is the first big highlight for you as well 🙂
Enjoy and take care!
