I would have loved to explore the Vltava River bends near Český Krumlov by canoe, but the weather (at least to my liking) did not cooperate. Therefore, I limited myself to exploring on foot. That made it easier to plan around the rain showers. Continue reading Český Krumlov without canoe

The Semmering Railway by foot
As the readers of this blog may have noticed, I do like trains. Today, I not only travelled by train, but also explored a (very special) railway line on foot: I hiked the (Lower Austrian section of) the Semmering Railway Trail, from Semmering to Payerbach-Reichenau. Continue reading The Semmering Railway by foot
Katman-hin-du and Namo-Buddha
We spent the last two days of our vacation back in Nepal, specifically in (and around) Kathmandu. Since both Hinduism and Buddhism play an important role in Nepal, we visited both Hindu and Buddhist temples – sometimes even both at once. Continue reading Katman-hin-du and Namo-Buddha
Familiar Bhaktapur
My Bhutan holiday began in a (somewhat) familiar environment: the ancient royal city of Bhaktapur in Nepal. Continue reading Familiar Bhaktapur
2000 years of history
Today was my last full day in Provence – and I did not even spend it in Provence, but in the neighboring region of Occitania. The reason for this was that today was, in fact, the synthesis of the two previous days: Romans + Bridge = Pont du Gard. Continue reading 2000 years of history
Sur le pont d’Avignon
Since I have currently set up camp in Avignon, I naturally had to explore this city a bit – and today was the day. Continue reading Sur le pont d’Avignon
The Roman provience
The city of Arles is rich in Roman history – and Roman ruins. Today, I visited those on a day trip to this city. Continue reading The Roman provience
A normal day (of strike action) in France
A nationwide strike was announced for today in France: All means of transport were supposed to be affected, as were some other sectors (e.g., pharmacies). Luckily, I left myself a buffer day when planning my time in Nice. Actually, this was intended for the case of bad weather (because “strike” was not on my “could affect my vacation” bingo card), but that does not really matter, of course. Due to the circumstances, I decided to limit myself to a city tour of Nice (within walking distance of my accommodation). Continue reading A normal day (of strike action) in France
Stockholm (also) by bike
In (early) summer, Stockholm presents itself quite differently than in (late) winter eleven years ago: While the wind can still be (relatively) fresh, it is still no comparison to the icy-grey Stockholm I experienced back then. Continue reading Stockholm (also) by bike
Rainy Hamburg
Following my day trip to Lübeck, I had a few hours (in the evening and early morning) in Hamburg. It was just like my first visit 32 years ago: rather rainy. Continue reading Rainy Hamburg
