Bhutan has to wait

For the first time ever, I have to cancel a whole trip: Originally, I planned to travel to Bhutan in early April. However, the current situation with COVID-19 makes this trip impossible.

Already on March 6, Bhutan announce a two-week ban on tourists entering the country after the first case of COVID-19 in the country (affecting a tourist). A couple of days later, India (where I would have spent a night each on the trip there and back) suspended all visa until April 15. Today, my trip was finally cancelled by the travel agency. Considering that the Austrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends to refrain from all non-essential travel, this seems like a good idea.

Well, it was not to be this time – but Bhutan remains on my bucket list!

Update

At Easter 2026, the time had finally come: I spent two weeks in Bhutan (and Nepal)! More information about this trip can be found in my Bhutan travelogue.
