Where there is a gorge, there is a river – and where there is a river, there is (sometimes) a lake. This is also the case with the Verdon river. So, today, I took a trip to the nearby Lac de Sainte-Croix, located just downriver from the Verdon Gorge. Continue reading The lake to the gorge

Europe’s Grand Canyon
A must-see for any nature lover on a holiday in Provence is the Verdon Gorge. Being up to 700 meters deep, it is one of the deepest gorges in Europe. I spent the last two days exploring the gorge – both from the bottom and from the top. Continue reading Europe’s Grand Canyon
Forces of nature in Hokitika
I am currently staying in Greymouth for four nights. While I am there, I once again rented a car. Today, I used that to explore the area around Hokitika. Continue reading Forces of nature in Hokitika
Queenstown, the stop-over destination for bus travellers
Queenstown is the bus hub in the Southern part of the South Island. Most buses are scheduled to leave in the morning, and arrive in the evening. Therefore, as a bus traveler, you are almost forced to spend at least one night in the city if you want to explore the Southern part of the South Island. In order to be able to explore at least a little bit more of the area, I added a second night on such an occasion. Continue reading Queenstown, the stop-over destination for bus travellers
Lighthouses and stone towers
All good cornerstones come in threes: After the East Cape and Te Urewera, it was now time for the Wairarapa region. The weather was changeable at best, but I was basically still able to fit in all my desired destinations. Continue reading Lighthouses and stone towers
Walking through hell
As hiking around Los Gigantes is not that easy (as already explained in the last blog entry), I took the bus towards the South today. I decided to explore a very popular canyon: Barranco del Infierno. Continue reading Walking through hell
Ending my vacation at a leisurely pace
My last vacation day was a rather relaxing one: I only had 24 kilometres to drive – and that is all I did. However, I took the opportunity to stop at the village of Masca on the way. Continue reading Ending my vacation at a leisurely pace
Taganana in Anaga
As the weather was supposed to be quite changable today (and I felt more like having another lazy afternoon), I decided against a bigger excursion today. Instead, I went hiking in the hills around my Taganana. This meant that I was already familiar with (some of) the views. Still, it was a nice hike. Continue reading Taganana in Anaga
Lots of bends to the sea
Slowly, I am working my way East in the Anaga mountains: Already on the day before, I had a view of Afur from Taborno. Today, I drove to the former village, and hiked from there to Playa del Tamadite. Continue reading Lots of bends to the sea
Hiking in the Caldera de Tejeda
I am currently staying in Tejeda, in the centre of Gran Canaria. This area is well-known for its gorgeous hikes, as I could experience today myself – even though I ended up on a different trail than I originally intended to take (due to a trail closure). Continue reading Hiking in the Caldera de Tejeda
