Queenstown, the supply station for Routeburn hikers

After my tour around Lake Whakatipu , I returned to Queenstown. There, I rented the necessary equipment for a multi-day hike (i.e. sleeping bag, and cooking pot): I spent the three days over Christmas on the Routeburn Track. Continue reading Queenstown, the supply station for Routeburn hikers

For once a “real” tourist!

New Zealand has many scenic routes to offer – even if not every one of them has the word “scenic” in its name. One of those is the Milford Road. Since I currently have a rental car, I did what many tourists do: I jumped in my car, and enjoyed the many viewpoints and short walks along the road – and of course the highlight at the end, a cruise on Milford Sound. Short Workation in Lille

Only three working days after being at Devoxx UK (in London) last week, my vacation (in London) was scheduled to begin. Therefore, flying home was out of the question. Instead, I spent these three working days in Lille – because a cozy apartment in the city center there is cheaper than a small single room on the outskirts of zone 2 of the Tube in London (even when including the train journey from and to London). From there, one has also very good views of the surrounding landscape – including Teide itself, of course. Continue reading 1000 metres below Teide

Above the clouds

Today, I finally said farewell to the Anaga mountains– probably not a day too early: Since the afternoon on the day before, it had been raining on and off. For quite a while, it looked as if the rain would also follow me to my next destination. Luckily, however, I finally found myself above the clouds: at the foot of Teide volcano. Continue reading Above the clouds

New week, new island

At the start of my second (full) week of holidays on the Canary Islands, I took the ferry to the next island: Tenerife. I will spend the rest of my holidays there – even though the title might indicate that I will be switching islands weekly now. However, Tenerife is larger than Gran Canaria. So, I will (hopefully) not be bored. Continue reading New week, new island
