When you are travelling, you can learn quite a few things. For me, my stay in Dubrovnik meant learning some things about the city that I did not expect – mainly because these were things a travel guide will not really talk about.
- Dubrovnik can be a bit depressing, especially if you are travelling alone, and arrive in the evening in the rain.
- Dubrovnik Old Town is basically one big pizzeria.
- Even if it rains, there are a lot of tourists strolling in the streets of Dubrovnik at night.
- If you think that Dubrovnik is full of tourists on a rainy evening, wait for 9.00 a.m. on the next (sunny) morning. Only then, you may know what "a lot of tourists" actually means.
- If you already have adjusted your threshold for "a lot of tourists" at 9.00 a.m., you may want to adjust it even further just two hours later.
-
If you leave early enough in the day, you can still enjoy a two hours long walk on the city walls.
- A cruise is definitely not for me if in every destination such a huge number of tourists are crowding the city.
-
If you cannot stand the crowds in the Old Town any longer, a short boat ride to Lokrum might help. Compared to the Old Town, you are almost alone on this small island.
-
The Old Town of Dubrovnik is most beautiful in the evening, after the crowds of day tourists have left the city.
