Today, I took a bike trip to the Austrian-Slovakian border, where I explored the March floodplains and Devín Castle. Continue reading Biking to the Castle

The Semmering Railway by foot
As the readers of this blog may have noticed, I do like trains. Today, I not only travelled by train, but also explored a (very special) railway line on foot: I hiked the (Lower Austrian section of) the Semmering Railway Trail, from Semmering to Payerbach-Reichenau. All good lakes do come in threes
I spent the last day of my vacation in Lower Austria: After staying overnight in Göstling an der Ybbs, I went on a hike in the area of Lunz am See, visiting three lakes in total. Continue reading All good lakes do come in threes
"Dampfross & Drahtesel" instead of Dolce Vita
Originally, I wanted to explore Pisa today. As this is currently not possible (for obvious reasons), I decided to go on a day trip by bike instead: I cycled along the "Dampfross & Drahtesel" bike route North of Vienna. Continue reading "Dampfross & Drahtesel" instead of Dolce Vita

A leisurely weekend

Postman Bernie
As already mentioned, I brought three postcards from Post Office Bay home to Austria. I combined the delivery of the two of these cards (going to the Wiener Neustadt area) with a bike tour. Continue reading Postman Bernie
Hiking the Ötschergraben
Today, I was hiking in Lower Austria. More precisely, I explored the Ötschergraben. With just under two hours drive from Vienna, this is at the limit of what is acceptable for a day trip. However, it was definitely worth it. Continue reading Hiking the Ötschergraben
Inside a Nuclear Reactor
As the only country in the world, Austria has built a nuclear power plant without ever putting it in operation. Nowadays, this gives the opportunity to go inside an actual reactor (as part of a twice-weekly public tour). That is exactly what I did today with a group of friends. Continue reading Inside a Nuclear Reactor
Exploring the Hohe Wand
The Hohe Wand is an elevated plateau South of Vienna. On one side, it has quite steep cliffs which are, quite probably, responsible for its name (in German, "Hohe Wand" means "high wall"). It is very popular with rock climbers, and paragliders. Continue reading Exploring the Hohe Wand
