Today is my first “true” vacation day, and I said farewell to Las Palmas. After picking up my rental car, I made my way into the island’s interior, where I will spend the next few days. Mostly, I am planning to go hiking – because this area of Gran Canaria has lots to offer in this regard! Continue reading Into the mountains of Gran Canaria!

Empty Arucas, crowded Teror
Also today, I was drawn to places outside the city. I will spend the next week in Las Palmas anyway – mostly working, but hopefully I will also find some time for short explorations within the city. So, I decided to visit two nice towns a bit further away today: Arucas and Teror. Continue reading Empty Arucas, crowded Teror
Beautiful Bled
My tour of lakes continues: Today, I visited Lake Bled. Additonally, I also hiked through Vintgar Gorge (which is close by). Continue reading Beautiful Bled
Off to Bohinj!
I spent the last two days in an accommodation near Lake Bohinj. Since this region was so beautiful, I limited myself to exploring the immediate surroundings. Why seek far afield when waterfall, lake and gorge are all within walking distance? Continue reading Off to Bohinj!
The Isonzo Canyons
Yesterday, I already liked the Soča (aka Isonzo) river a lot. So, I decided to take the longer trip to the Soča Valley today in order to hike part of the Soča Trail. However, I decided against the almost eight-hour variant over the full 27.6 kilometers (from the source to Bovec). Instead, I opted for the scenically most interesting part (according to my guidebook, at least) which starts in Soča village. Continue reading The Isonzo Canyons
Books always make a room better
Slowly, it is time to think about returning home. So, I drove East today. My first stop was at Admont Abbey to visit the impressive Admont Abbey Library. In the afternoon, I went hiking in Waterhole Gorge. Continue reading Books always make a room better
Gorge(ou)s in Karwendel

Plan B in Bürs and Brand
Due to the bad weather, my initially planned hike to two summits near Bludenz was not really possible. Besides, I was not sure whether I had a third day with 1000 metres elevation gain in me. So, I tried to squeeze in two rather short hikes along the Alvier creek near Bürs: Bürs canyon and Kessel waterfall. Continue reading Plan B in Bürs and Brand
A trip down memory lane gorge
After two days of exploring tourist destinations that I was not yet familiar with, it was time again for a trip down memory lane: with a visit to <span>Tscheppaschlucht gorge. Continue reading A trip down memory lane gorge
Snow on the Alpine Pastures
After Virgen valley, Gschlöß valley, and (a short trip to) Defereggen valley in the past few days, I explored Kals valley today. I hiked up the Dabaklamm to Dorfer valley, and (almost) up to Dorfer lake. Continue reading Snow on the Alpine Pastures
