Who says you can only make a stopover when flying? As my train journey back home took me through Bordeaux, I stopped there for three nights (but actually only two days). I used one of these days to explore the city. Continue reading Stopover in Bordeaux

Monte Perdido Lluvioso
My first stop in Spain was intended to be (mainly) dedicated to the Monte Perdido National Park. Unfortunately, this “forgotten mountain” (Monte Perdido) was also a “rainy mountain” (monte lluvioso) for me. In addition, access to the park was scheduled to be closed for around ten days starting the next day, Monday, due to road construction works. This of course further complicated things. After heavy rains basically all day yesterday, I had to bite the bullet today, and try my luck despite the mediocre weather forecast. After all, this was the last day that the area was accessible. Continue reading Monte Perdido Lluvioso
The mountain cirques of the French Pyrenees
I dedicated my first two full days in the French Pyrenees to a few mountain cirque – although some of them were originally not on my list. Continue reading The mountain cirques of the French Pyrenees
Picturesque Bern
I spent the last 24 hours of my stay in Switzerland in the Swiss capital (or more correctly: federal) city of Bern: a nice little town, but I would not have needed much more time to explore it. Continue reading Picturesque Bern
Lots of waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen
After having seen the Lauterbrunnen Valley from above two days ago, I made a trip there today. Also this time, a view from above was a must. However, I also explored the valley floor. Continue reading Lots of waterfalls in Lauterbrunnen
The Crimes Joys of Grindelwald
After the rain in the days before, I was a little worried that the current weather would spoil my planned hikes in Grindelwald. But my worries were unfounded: The past weather had already taken care of that. It was cold for so long that there was still far too much snow for my planned hikes at higher altitudes. So I asked the tourist information office for other hikes that were less affected by snow. In the end, this worked out pretty well. Continue reading The Crimes Joys of Grindelwald
The traditions of Laos
After my trip to Nong Khiaw, I returned to Luang Prabang, because the next leg of my journey starts from there. This time, I used my stay in the city to familiarize myself a bit with the local customs. Continue reading The traditions of Laos
The temples of Luang Prabang
Luang Prabang! Ever since I read the descriptions by Peter Moore in his book “The Wrong Way Home” about this city, it was the epitome of Southeast Asia for me. Even though the city undoubtedly has some beautiful parts, reality could not quite keep up with my (very high) expectations – but this may also be due to a rather unfortunate start. Continue reading The temples of Luang Prabang
Angkor and more
The main attraction of Cambodia are the temples of Angkor. So, this was also the main focus of my five-day stay. Still, I also explored rural Cambodia a bit. Continue reading Angkor and more
Franz Josef, the Third (visit)
I spent New Year’s in Franz Josef – a much quieter place than Wanaka or Queenstown. Continue reading Franz Josef, the Third (visit)
