Mixed emotions

I am not sure what to think of Toronto. On the one hand, the tourist sights are not that exciting. On the other hand, however, I really enjoyed the "other" (i.e. "everyday-life") Toronto that I was able to explore thanks to being shown around by some friends living here.

I spent a day walking around Downtown, which is dominated by the usual skyscrapers. The most unusual sight was the Casa Loma, a castle built by a local tycoon in the early 1900s. However, he lived there for only ten years before he went broke.

Downtown Toronto

Among others, my friends took me for a bike ride along the shore of Lake Ontario, which I enjoyed very much. Surprisingly, the view of Downtown from Humber Bay even reminded me a bit of cycling on the Danube Island – even though the Danube is a river, not a lake, and the buildings in the Donaucity and the Donauturm are much lower than the skyscrapers and the CN Tower here in Toronto.
