On the way home, I made a short stopover in Maribor today. It is a nice little town, but (to be honest) I expected a little more. Continue reading Sleepy Maribor
A Log(ar)ical vacation end
On my last “true” vacation day, I just had to go out into nature again. I chose the Logar Valley, which is considered to be one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in the country. Given my small sample size, I cannot confirm that with certainty – but I can say that it is very picturesque indeed. Continue reading A Log(ar)ical vacation end
The caves of Škocjan county
Actually, I wanted go travel back North (and thus into the mountains) again today. According to the weather forecast, however, this could have been a rather wet day. So, I drove South instead. On the one hand the weather should be better there, and on the other hand one can go hiking below the surface, in karst caves. Continue reading The caves of Škocjan county
A cozy capital
When you are spending ten days in Slovenia, a visit to the capital should also be on the itinerary. Therefore, I spent a couple of hours in Ljubljana today. Continue reading A cozy capital
Beautiful Bled
My tour of lakes continues: Today, I visited Lake Bled. Additonally, I also hiked through Vintgar Gorge (which is close by). Continue reading Beautiful Bled
Off to Bohinj!
I spent the last two days in an accommodation near Lake Bohinj. Since this region was so beautiful, I limited myself to exploring the immediate surroundings. Why seek far afield when waterfall, lake and gorge are all within walking distance? Continue reading Off to Bohinj!
An (un)pronounced beautiful pass
Another winding mountain road! I followed the Soča again, only this time even beyond its source, up to Vršič pass. This pass is the watershed between Soča and Sava rivers – and a great area for hiking! Continue reading An (un)pronounced beautiful pass
The Isonzo Canyons
Yesterday, I already liked the Soča (aka Isonzo) river a lot. So, I decided to take the longer trip to the Soča Valley today in order to hike part of the Soča Trail. However, I decided against the almost eight-hour variant over the full 27.6 kilometers (from the source to Bovec). Instead, I opted for the scenically most interesting part (according to my guidebook, at least) which starts in Soča village. Continue reading The Isonzo Canyons
From waterdrip to waterfall
Today was dedicated to the Kozjak river. My first accommodation in Slovenia is on the way up to the mountain where the river originates. So, I was able to hike to a waterfall both in the upper reaches of the river, and a little further down. Continue reading From waterdrip to waterfall
One, two, and gone!
Today, I said goodbye to South Tyrol and continued to Slovenia, where I will spend the second (slightly shorter) part of my vacation. On the way, however, I made a a final stop in Italy. Again, I followed the motto of the last two days: A lake is needed, or better yet, more! Continue reading One, two, and gone!
