After my visits to Svaneti and Kazbegi last year, it was time for the third Georgian mountain region: Tusheti. Continue reading Tusheti and the untouched Caucasus

King’s City of another kind
Telavi is a former king’s city, but very different from its Nepalese counterparts: less people, but no temples either. Continue reading King’s City of another kind
The Charm of Tbilisi
During my first visit in Tbilisi last year, I was not quite sure whether I should like the city or not. In the meantime, after some more short visits last year and another visit over the past two days, I can say that the Georgian capital does have its charm. Continue reading The Charm of Tbilisi
Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Mountains
As a heat wave is currently hitting Europe, I decided to spend an extended weekend in the mountains. So, I enjoyed three days of bright sunshine on Dachstein plateau at about 1,800 metres above sea level. Even though the afternoons were also quite hot up there, it was definitely much better than the 35° C (and more) in Vienna. Continue reading Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Mountains

In the Clouds at Wolfgangsee

Farewell to Nepal
Today, I had to say good-bye to Nepal. The farewell turned out to be very fitting: For nearly one hour, we flew along the Himalayas – under blue skies. The view of the seemingly endless row of snow-covered mountain peaks was simply unbelievably beautiful.
All good kingdoms come in threes
Today I visited Patan, the capital of the third former kingdom in Kathmandu Valley (along with Kathmandu and Bhaktapur). The city can best be described by a phrase that is obviously not only popular in Thailand, but also in Nepal: same same, but different
. Continue reading All good kingdoms come in threes
Taking the scenic route to hiking
Actually, I wanted to go to Nagarkot today. This village is located at approximately 2,000 metres above sea level, and you are supposed to have a great view of the Himalayas from there. What is more, there are some nice hikes in the surrounding hills. However, I did not manage to get there. Still, I managed to get to a hiking trail in the end – just not the one I originally planned to. Continue reading Taking the scenic route to hiking
