New York, the Windy City?

I have spent the past three days in New York – only three days, one is inclined to say: For the number of sights in the Big Apple, this is not much indeed. Additionally, the weather was not ideal: Even though it was better than the weather forecast led me to believe (just half a day of rain instead of all three), there was an icy wind blowing almost all the time.

Nonetheless, I got to see what I wanted: As this trip was my seventh stay in the city, I did not have to try to visit everything again, but could instead focus on the new sights and old favourites – and this is just what I have done. Continue reading New York, the Windy City?

Best of the West

From May 8, to May 30, 2010, I was travelling in United States on the "Best of the West" tour offered by Trek America. Although the group was older than expected (with an average age of about 50), the mix worked really well – in fact, even better than I could have wished for. So, the age did not really matter after all.

What turned out to be (much) worse than expected, though, was the weather. We experienced pretty much everything you can imagine: from hail to rain to snow, from sunshine to strong winds (including a snow storm, and a sand storm). Despite these adverse conditions, however, it was a really great holiday.

Manhattan Revisited

Even though I tried to focus on Brooklyn during this visit, I could not resist spending some time in Manhattan as well. During my time there, I revisited some sights, where I have already been before (e.g. Central Park or my favourite museum, the AMNH), but I have also managed to include some "firsts" into my itinerary.
